Smithtown Mourns Tackan 1st Grader; Fundraiser Made

Daniel Rubi died on Monday, and nearly $30,000 has been raised for his family since. Here is how you can donate if you would like to.

SMITHTOWN, NY — The Smithtown community is mourning the loss of Daniel Rubi, a first-grader at Tackan Elementary School, who died on Monday.

A GoFundMe page for the Rubi family has raised nearly $30,000 as of Thursday afternoon.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the Rubi family," Sheri Acquaro, the fundraiser's organizer, wrote. "We are starting this Go Fund Me to help alleviate any financial burden."

The GoFundMe has been shared by New York state Senator Mario Mattera.

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to Daniel's family as well as to entire community who are sharing in their grief," Mattera wrote on Facebook. "My best wishes to all the students and faculty at Tackan Elementary School who must all be devastated by this loss. Rest in Peace Daniel!"
