Smithtown Police Blotter: 1968 Corvette Stolen From Driveway
ALSO: Multiple scams were reported by Town of Smithtown residents this week, police say.
SMITHTOWN, NY — Curious about what's going on in your neighborhood? These are recent incidents reported in the Smithtown area from Feb. 21 through Feb. 26.
The Suffolk County Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.
- Feb. 26: Grand larceny (fourth-degree) was reported on White Cliff Lane in Nesconset from Feb. 19 at 4:30 a.m. Someone stole a 1968 Corvette from a driveway between Feb. 19 and Feb. 26, police said.
- Feb. 23: Grand larceny (fourth-degree) was reported on Franklin Drive in St. James from Dec. 27 at 12:01 a.m. A person was scammed out of money, police said. They were speaking with someone on Instagram when they were asked to deposit a check and then send the person gift cards, police said. The person listened to the scammer, and the check was fake, police said.
- Feb. 21: Burglary (third-degree) was reported on North Country Road in St. James at 2:09 a.m. Someone broke into Soul Brew through the back door, police said. Cash and a drop box were stolen, police said.
- Feb. 21: Grand larceny (fourth-degree) was reported on Route 25A in Smithtown from Feb. 16 at noon. A person received multiple emails from someone pretending to be a relative requesting cash and gift cards be sent to them, police said. The person did so before they realized it was a scam, police said.
- Feb. 21: Grand larceny (second-degree) was reported on Purdue Lane in Village of the Branch at 12:36 p.m. A person sent a photo of their face to someone via Instagram and is being told if they do not pay, the scammer will send a doctored version of the photo to all of the person's followers, police said.
- Feb. 21: Grand larceny (third-degree) was reported on Milhouse Lane in Lake Grove from Feb. 1 at noon. Someone stole jewelry from a home sometime between Feb. 1 and Feb. 21, police said. Police are investigating how someone had access to the jewelry.
