Smithtown Police Blotter: 2 Catalytic Converters Swiped

ALSO: A person was scammed into sending money, as the check they received bounced, police say.

SMITHTOWN, NY — Curious about what's going on in your neighborhood? Check out the recent crimes reported in the area between April 23 and April 29.

The Suffolk County Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

  • April 26: Criminal mischief (third-degree) was reported on Second Avenue in St. James from 5 p.m. on April 20. A catalytic converter was stolen from a 2006 Honda, police said.
  • April 26: Grand larceny (third-degree) was reported on Clearbrook Drive in Village of the Branch from April 20 at 9 a.m. A person who was sent a check in the mail was told to send the funds to various Venmo and Zelle accounts to pay for various work equipment, police said. The check bounced, police said.
  • April 24: Criminal mischief (third-degree) was reported on Fifth Avenue in St. James from noon on April 14. A catalytic converter was stolen from a 1999 Honda Accord, police said.
