Smithtown Police Blotter: Backpack With $6,000 In Cash Stolen

ALSO: The rims and tires were stolen off three cars at a dealership, police say.

SMITHTOWN, NY — Curious about what's going on in your neighborhood? Check out the recent crimes reported in the area between Oct. 9 and Oct. 15.

The Suffolk County Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

  • Oct. 13: Grand larceny (third-degree) was reported on East Main Street in Smithtown at 12:10 p.m. Someone approached someone else and stole a backpack containing approximately $10,000 from their vehicle, police said.
  • Oct. 12: Grand larceny (third-degree) was reported on Smithtown Boulevard in Nesconset from Oct. 11 at 12:01 a.m. Someone stole drills, two generators, a compressor, saw and other equipment from a 1997 Ford parked in a work site, police said. The tools were worth $5,575, police said. The back window of the Ford was damaged, police said.
  • Oct. 11: Grand larceny (third-degree) was reported on Middle Country Road in St. James from Oct. 10 at 9 p.m. Someone stole the tires and rims of two 2023 Nissan and one 2022 Nissan at Smithtown Nissan, police said. The cars' windows were also damaged, police said.
  • Oct. 11: Grand larceny (third-degree) was reported at Smith Haven Mall in Lake Grove at 3 p.m. Someone broke a car window and stole a backpack containing approximately $6,000 in cash and credit cards while a person was loading their car at Macy's, police said.
