Smithtown Police Blotter: Church Burglarized, Items Damaged

Gravestones were moved, and a church organ was knocked over, police say.

SMITHTOWN, NY — Curious about what's going on in your neighborhood? Check out the recent crimes reported in the area between March 20 and March 26.

The Suffolk County Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

  • March 26: Grand larceny (third-degree) was reported on Nicola Lane in Nesconset at 11:35 p.m. A check was stolen and deposited via a mobile app, police said.
  • March 25: Burglary (third-degree) was reported on Middle Country Road in Lake Grove from Dec. 1, 2021, at 7 a.m. New Village Church was broken into, police said. The burglar moved gravestones on the property and entered the building by breaking a window, police said. Once inside, they knocked over a Church organ, discharged a fire extinguisher, and other damages, police said.
  • March 23: Grand larceny (second-degree) was reported on West Jericho Turnpike in Smithtown from Jan. 1, 2020, at 7 a.m. Medical supplies were stolen from a medical practice over the course of two years, police said.
  • March 22: Identity theft (first-degree) was reported on Frank Street in Smithtown from March 12 at noon. A person opened a cell phone account and credit card charges were made under the victim's name, police said.
