Smithtown Police Blotter: Jeep Stolen From Driveway

The Jeep was unlocked and the keys were inside, police say.

SMITHTOWN, NY — Curious about what's going on in your neighborhood? Check out the recent crimes reported in the area between May 8 and May 14.

The Suffolk County Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

  • May 12: Grand larceny (third-degree) was reported on McArthur Lane in Smithtown at 3:27 p.m. Someone altered someone else's personal check and cashed it for a large sum of money, police said.
  • May 10: Burglary (third-degree) was reported on Middle Country Road in St. James at 3:38 a.m. Someone used a rock to break the glass front door of USA Auto Find and entered the business, police said. Once inside, the burglar rummaged through several drawers and desks but did not take anything, police said.
  • May 10: Identity theft (first-degree) was reported on Ridge Road in Smithtown from May 5 at noon. A person opened a bank account in someone else's name and transferred money from the victim’s bank account into the fraudulent account, police said.
  • May 9: Grand larceny (third-degree) was reported on Francis Street in Nesconset from May 8 at 9 p.m. A person stole a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee that was parked in a driveway, police said. The Jeep was left unlocked and the keys were inside, police said. The theft happened overnight between May 8 and 9, police said.
