Smithtown Police Blotter: Man Punched During Basketball Game
ALSO: Two Town of Smithtown residents were scammed, police say.

The Suffolk County Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.
- July 10: Grand larceny (third-degree) was reported on Gibbs Pond Road in Nesconset from July 9 at noon. A resident reported they were contacted via email regarding payment for a pending business trip that required gift cards, police said. The person purchased multiple cards and sent pictures of the cards to the email account, which was a scam, police said.
- July 9: Assault was reported on East Main Street in Smithtown at 6:30 p.m. A man was playing basketball at LA Fitness when he was punched in the face by an acquaintance during the game, police said. The man was brought to a local hospital to be treated for injuries that are not life-threatening, police said.
- July 6: Grand larceny (fourth-degree) was reported on Loft Road in Smithtown from May 5 at 4 p.m. A person stole tools from Gold Hill Builders, police said.
- July 4: Grand larceny (fourth-degree) was reported on Navy Drive in St. James from July 2 at 8 a.m. A St. James resident reported being contacted by someone claiming to be a representative from Citibank saying their account was frozen and they needed to deposit cash into an account via a money transfer app in order to unlock it, police said. The resident transferred money and provided the requested gift cards, police said. This was a scam, police said.
