Smithtown Police Blotter: People Scammed Out Of Money
One person was falsely told that they had a relative in jail and needed to pay money, police say.

The Suffolk County Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.
- Oct. 6: Identity theft (first-degree) was reported on Blydenburg Avenue in Smithtown from Sept. 27 at 9 a.m. Someone withdrew from someone else's checking account without authorization, police said.
- Oct. 5: Grand larceny (third-degree) was reported on Dartmouth Drive in Lake Grove at 10 a.m. A person was tricked into sending money after they were falsely told they had a relative in jail, police said.
- Oct. 4: Grand larceny (third-degree) was reported on Gotham Drive in St. James from Oct. 1 at noon. A person was scammed, police said.
