Smithtown Police Blotter: Person Scammed Out Of $3,000

The Suffolk County Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

  • Feb. 17: Grand larceny (fourth-degree) was reported on Wandering Way in Smithtown from Feb. 16 at 11 a.m. A person was scammed out of roughly $3,000 by a woman claiming to be from Amazon, police said.
  • Feb. 16: Grand larceny (third-degree) was reported at Smith Haven Mall in Lake Grove at 6:29 p.m. Gold chains were stolen from Zales in Smith Haven Mall, police said.
  • Feb. 14: Making graffiti was reported at Avalon Circle in Nesconset at 10:45 a.m. Someone wrote on playground equipment, police said.
