Smithtown Police Blotter: Public Storage In Nesconset Burglarized

At least 82 outdoor storage units were broken into with a pry bar, police say.

The Suffolk County Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

  • May 23: Identity theft (second-degree) was reported on Route 111 in Smithtown from May 18 at 9:33 a.m. Someone cashed a counterfeit check against someone else's business account, police said.
  • May 22: Burglary (third-degree) was reported on Southern Boulevard in Nesconset at 2:30 a.m. Somebody broke into 82 outdoor storage units at Public Storage, police said. The burglar used pry bars to open the doors and enter the units, police said. Police said they are investigating what was stolen.
  • May 22: Grand larceny (fourth-degree) was reported on Hillside Avenue in St. James at 7 p.m. A person sent photos to a social media account they thought belonged to a woman, police said. However, the sender was contacted by a man who demanded cash or he'd release the photos, police said.
  • May 22: Grand larceny (fourth-degree) was reported on Moriches Road in Smithtown at 8 p.m. Someone's wallet was stolen, and someone used the debit and credit cards inside it at various stores, police said.
