Smithtown Police Blotter: Scammer Steals Money From Bank Account
ALSO: A driver backed into a vehicle when pulling out of a driveway and then fled, police say.
SMITHTOWN, NY — Curious about what's going on in your neighborhood? These are recent incidents reported in the Smithtown area from April 7 through April 13.
The Suffolk County Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

- April 10: Operator leaves scene of property damage accident was reported on Veronica Court in Smithtown at 12:43 p.m. A vehicle backed out of a driveway and struck the back of a vehicle that was parked opposite the driveway, police said. The driver then fled, police said.
- April 8: Grand larceny (third-degree) and identity theft (first-degree) were reported on Smithtown Boulevard in Nesconset at 1 p.m. A scammer called a Nesconset resident and pretended to be a bank representative, police said. The resident sent the scammer an authorization code that gave the scammer access to the account, police said. The scammer stole money from the bank account, police said.
