Smithtown Police Blotter: Woman Bitten In Macy's Robbery

ALSO: A car was stolen, and a person was blackmailed after their laptop got hacked, police say.

SMITHTOWN, NY — Curious about what's going on in your neighborhood? Check out the recent crimes reported in the area between Oct. 30 and Nov. 5.

The Suffolk County Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

  • Nov. 5: Grand larceny (fourth-degree) was reported on West Jericho Turnpike in Smithtown at 9:42 a.m. Someone stole a catalytic converter off a 2004 Ford E-450, police said.
  • Nov. 2: Robbery (second-degree) was reported at Smith Haven Mall in Lake Grove at 1:15 p.m. Two women tried to steal assorted clothing from Macy's at Smith Haven Mall, police said. The women were stopped by a third woman outside, and then they bit her to get away from her, causing the woman to need medical attention, police said.
  • Nov. 1: Grand larceny (fourth-degree) was reported on Willow Ridge Drive in Smithtown from Oct. 31 at 5 p.m. Somebody stole a wallet from an unlocked Nissan Rogue that was parked in a driveway, police said.
  • Nov. 1: Grand larceny (third-degree) was reported on Maple Avenue in Smithtown from Oct. 31 at 11 p.m. Somebody stole a 2019 Honda Accord that was parked in an apartment building parking lot overnight, police said. Police do not know if the vehicle was locked or not.
  • Oct. 31: Grand larceny (fourth-degree) was reported on Shady Lane in Smithtown at 2 a.m. Somebody hacked into someone else's laptop, obtained passwords to various social media accounts, and then blackmailed the laptop owner into paying Bitcoin money, police said.
