Smithtown Police Blotter: Woman Loses $2K In Phone Scam
ALSO: An Uber driver was scammed, a car was stolen from a dealership, and other scams were reported, police say.

The Suffolk County Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.
- Sept. 26: Grand larceny (third-degree) was reported on Middle Country Road in St. James from 9 p.m. Sept. 25. Someone stole a 2018 Volvo S60 from Smithtown Volvo Cars, police said.
- Sept. 25: Grand larceny (third-degree) was reported on Cambon Avenue in St. James from 1:48 p.m. Sept. 24. A woman reported a phone call from someone claiming to be her grandson, who claimed he was arrested and needed bail money, police said. The woman picked up gift cards to Macy's and sent the numbers to the person requesting them in lieu of bail money, police said. The woman lost at least $2,000, police said.
- Sept. 24: Grand larceny (third-degree) was reported on Middle Country Road in St. James from 9 p.m. Sept. 23. Someone entered Smithtown Ford and stole four full sets of vehicle tires and rims, police said.
- Sept. 23: Grand larceny (third-degree) was reported on Ralph Avenue in Lake Grove from noon Sept. 22. Someone called the number they believed to be the Apple customer service line and spoke with a fake representative, police said. The person paid an unspecified amount of money to fix a "computer issue," police said.
- Sept. 22: Identity theft (first-degree) was reported on West Jericho Turnpike in Smithtown from 9 a.m. Aug. 1. An unknown person took out a small business loan in someone else's name using their security number, police said.
- Sept. 21: Identity theft (second-degree) was reported on Patrick's Way in St. James at 12:39 a.m. An Uber driver received a phone call from someone they thought was from customer service, who told the driver they received complaints from customers about wearing a mask in the vehicle, police said. The caller told the driver they needed to verify account information with Uber, police said. The caller used the information to steal money from the account, police said.
- Sept. 21: Grand larceny (third-degree) was reported on Nesconset Boulevard in Nesconset from 7 p.m. Sept. 14. Someone took a tow dolly from the U-Haul yard and did not return it, police said.
