Smithtown Police Blotter: Woman's Pocketbook Nabbed From Car

She was loading groceries into her car at a Costco when someone stole the pocketbook, police say.

The Suffolk County Police Department posted the following information. All charges are accusations and do not signify guilt.

  • Sept. 25: Grand larceny (fourth-degree) was reported on Garet Place in Smithtown at 3:15 p.m. A woman left her pocketbook on the front passenger seat of an unlocked 2017 Chevrolet while loading groceries into the car in the Costco parking lot, police said. Someone went into the car and stole her purse, police said.
  • Sept. 22: Grand larceny (fourth-degree) was reported on Columbus Avenue in Smithtown at 2:47 p.m. A man got a text from what he thought was his personal bank alerting him to fraud, police said. The man answered the message, received a call and provided personal information, police said. Money was withdrawn from the account without the man's permission, police said.
  • Sept. 20: Grand larceny (fourth-degree) was reported on Alexander Avenue in Nesconset at 4:30 a.m. A person broke the back driver's side window of a 2018 Infiniti Q50 parked outside a home, police said. The thief stole a wallet containing cash, credit/debit cards and identification documents, police said.
