SMITHTOWN, NY — The Town of Smithtown honored Assistant Town Attorney Rachel Lenberger as its Employee of the Month for April 2026, recognizing her dedication, professionalism, and growing impact on the community during a recent Town Board meeting.

The monthly recognition highlights town employees who exemplify outstanding public service. Officials said Lenberger, a relatively new member of the Town Attorney’s Office, has already distinguished herself through her work ethic and commitment.

After graduating, passing the bar exam, and being admitted as an attorney in May 2024, Lenberger was appointed Assistant Town Attorney in November at age 28. Town officials noted she is among the youngest attorneys to serve in the role, similar to Town Attorney Matt Jakubowski, who was hired at 26.

Since her appointment, Lenberger has worked alongside senior attorneys while continuing to build her legal experience. Officials said she recently reached a key milestone by successfully defending the town in her first case, which she handled independently from start to finish.

Her dedication, attention to detail, and positive attitude reflect the high standards we strive to uphold across all departments," Supervisor Ed Wehrheim said. "The Town Attorney’s Office, where she serves, is often instrumental behind the scenes, guiding major developments, navigating complex contracts, and stepping in to solve critical issues, yet rarely receives the recognition it deserves. They are truly among the unsung heroes of our Town workforce, and we are proud to have Rachel as part of that exceptional team.”
