Smithtown Resident Publishes Teen Entrepreneurship Book

Long-time Smithtown resident Terry Parrett fulfilled one of his ambitions by publishing his first book, “TeenBoss: How Any Teen Can Start and Run a Business”. For almost 15 years, Mr. Parrett had presented an entrepreneurship workshop for teens in libraries on Long Island and the tri-state area. He had been planning on turning the workshop into a book for years, and finally decided the time was right. He reasons, “It’s very challenging to find a job, especially if you’re a young adult; a lot of the jobs that are available don’t pay very well, and aren’t necessarily things you enjoy doing. My book, and the workshop was created from, shows teens how to take the skills and interests they currently have, and takes them step-by-step through the process of turning it from a hobby or interest into a paying business.“

Terry practices what he teaches; after earning his MBA, he decided to change career paths from marketing to a life-long passion, entertainment. Smithtown residents may remember Terry as the House Magician from the now-defunct Okey Dokey restaurant; after years of performing as a magician, he made a switch and started performing a comedy hypnosis act. He currently presents his show, “EnTRANCED: The Hypno-Reality Show” at casinos and private functions around the country.

Terry says, “While my passion is performing, I truly enjoy applying what I learned in business school; not only to my own career, but sharing that knowledge with others. Showing teens how they can make good money doing something they enjoy really makes me happy. Now that the book is published, teens around the country, not just the people who can get to one of workshops, can do the same thing I did. There’s nothing better than making good money doing something you love!”
