KINGS PARK, NY — Students and teachers from the Smithtown Central School District cleaned up 192 pounds of trash on the beach at Sunken Meadow State Park on Oct. 22, the school district announced.

More than 100 people came out for the beach cleanup, as every school in the district was represented.

Students and teachers acted as citizen scientists, documenting the type of trash they picked up. That information will be added to the database that follows trends in trash.
