Smithtown Student-Athletes Honored By Board Of Education

"They represent the best of the best of what our students are," Smithtown Athletic Director Jason Lambert said.

SMITHTOWN, NY — Student-athletes were honored during the Smithtown Board of Education meeting on Tuesday, the school district announced.

"They represent the best of the best of what our students are," Athletic Director Jason Lambert said.

He lauded the accomplishments of the combined high school boys cross-country team and the girls Smithtown/Hauppauge swim/dive team.

Varsity track coach, Pete Schieck, introduced his cross-country team, which won the League 1 championship for a seventh consecutive season and has won 46 consecutive dual meets.

Douglas Antaky was also recognized for breaking several school records and finishing second overall in the state championships.

Next to be honored was the three-time reigning Suffolk County Champion Smithtown/Hauppauge swim and dive team. Head coach Sean Montalvo praised the team for their hard work.

"These girls work so hard, and we’ll be back," he said.

This past season the team was state runner-up. The 200-yard medley relay made up of Julia Lucca, Sofia Burns, Sarah Lucca and anchor Mary Grace Waring earned first place at the state championships with a time of 1:44.71.
