ST. JAMES, NY — Fifth graders at Mills Pond Elementary School made Valentine's Day cards for U.S. military veterans, the Smithtown School District announced.
The students designed a variety of heart-shaped, colorful cards that were sent to veterans residing at the Northport VA Medical Center.
The veterans are a "group of special people who showed their love for country by serving in the military," the district wrote.
