Smithtown's Tackan Elementary Students Learn Polar Animals

Children tested how blubber works in ice water, had a "penguin egg" relay race, created polar animals and more. See some photos.

NESCONSET, NY — Tackan Elementary School students recently learned how blubber keeps an animal warm, the height of penguins, and other facts about polar animals, the Smithtown School District shared.

For the past few weeks, kindergarten students have been studying several animals and wrote/illustrated facts about polar animals including penguins, polar bears, snowy owls and more.

During their Polar Animal Centers, the children tested how blubber works in ice water, did an estimation math center, measured "how many penguins" tall they are, had a penguin "egg" relay race, created their own polar animals and went ice fishing.
