Smithtown Students Lift Spirits At Assisted Living Homes
Students visit assisted living residents, offering small acts of kindness that make a big impact, teachers say.
SMITHTOWN, NY — Students at Smithtown High School East are stepping outside the classroom and into the community, bringing compassion and connection to local assisted living residents.
Members of the school’s leadership program have been visiting residents at Lakeshore Assisted Living and Amber Court Assisted Living, where they spend time engaging in simple but meaningful activities.
Through giving manicures, playing games and sharing conversations, students are forming relationships that go beyond routine service hours, creating moments of joy for residents while gaining valuable perspective themselves.
