Smithtown East Alum Honored on All-SUNYAC Team

Smithtown High School East alum Nick Travers is one of seven members of the Plattsburgh State men's lacrosse team to receive All-SUNYAC (State University of New York Athletic Conference) First Team nods.

Smithtown East High School alum Nick Travers is one of seven members of the Plattsburgh State men’s lacrosse team who were honored on April 30 as the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) announced the 2013 SUNYAC Men’s Lacrosse All-Conference Team.

SUNY Plattsburgh
senior Travers, along with Tim Lawrence, Joey Kramer and Ryan Phillips each received All-SUNYAC First Team nods, according to a report on PressRepublican.com.

Charlie Dullea and Brett McClelland garnered second team honors while Mike Lind was one of four honorable mention selections, the report said, adding, the seven all-conference honorees mark a program high for the Cardinals, which previously set the record with five last season.

In addition, Travers, along with Lawrence, Kramer and Phillips, join Kyle Norchi (2011) and Chris Hopps (2008) as the only Plattsburgh State players to receive first-team accolades, the report said.

Travers is a three-time All-SUNYAC selection. After representing the Cardinals on the second team in his first two seasons, Travers jumps up to the first team in his senior season as a fixture in Plattsburgh State’s midfield. He appeared in all 16 games and enters the postseason fifth in team scoring with 19 goals and 26 points. Travers has won 117 of 216 face-offs and leads the squad with 101 ground balls.
Before heading to Plattsburgh, Travers played one year of lacrosse at Sacred Heart University, lettered twice in soccer and basketball and four times in lacrosse at Smithtown East High School and earned all-county and all-league honors.
