SMITHTOWN, NY — America's VetDogs, a Smithtown-based organization, received the Heart of the Community Award from Jaspan Schlesinger LLP, according to a news release.

America's VetDogs's mission is to help those who have served the United States honorably to live with dignity and independence. The organization's service dog programs were created to provide enhanced mobility and renewed independence to U.S. veterans, active-duty service members, and first responders with disabilities, allowing them to once again live with pride and self-reliance.

Service dogs provide veterans with support for daily activities, as well as motivation to tackle everyday challenges.
