State Police Warn Of Phone Scam On Long Island
Scammers have been calling people and pretending to be state troopers, police say.
LONG ISLAND, NY — Long Islanders were warned Thursday of a phone scam where callers are impersonating New York State Police troopers, state police announced.
Scammers have been calling and telling people that there is a case pending against them before requesting personal information, all while claiming to be a state police trooper.
The phone number showing up on caller ID is 631-756-3300 which is the phone number used by the New York State Police, Troop L Headquarters on Long Island.

The state police or any agency authorized by it will ever solicit for money or ask for personal information over the phone, police said.
"Please do not give any of your personal information over the phone unless you 100% sure you know who you are speaking with and if you have ANY hesitation, simply hang up," police said.
