Stolen Car Chase Ends In Crashes With Police Vehicles, 2 Arrested On LI: Police

Pursuit from Southern State Parkway to Sagtikos Parkway ended in Smithtown after crashes with police vehicles, authorities said.

KINGS PARK, NY — Two men were arrested Tuesday night after a stolen vehicle pursuit that left two troopers injured, according to New York State Police.

Police said troopers spotted a stolen vehicle traveling eastbound on the Southern State Parkway near Exit 22, near North Merrick, around 7:36 p.m. Tuesday.

When troopers attempted a traffic stop, the driver — identified as Joshua Rosario-Rivera, 38 — did not comply, police said. Authorities said Boubacar Diallo, 39, was a passenger in the vehicle.

Police said Rosario-Rivera fled at a high rate of speed, prompting a pursuit.

During the chase, police said the driver struck multiple marked State Police vehicles and drove recklessly in an attempt to avoid arrest.

The pursuit continued northbound onto the Sagtikos Parkway and ended near the SM5W exit near the Sunken Meadow State Park in Smithtown, according to police.

Both men were taken into custody without further incident, police said.

Two troopers were injured during the pursuit and sustained minor, non-life-threatening injuries, authorities said.

Police said the men were charged with felony assault on a police officer, criminal possession of stolen property in the third degree, a class D felony, third-degree grand larceny, a class D felony, and class A misdemeanor second-degree reckless endangerment, second-degree obstructing governmental administration, third-degree unlawful fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, resisting arrest, driving while ability impaired by drugs, an unclassified misdemeanor, and multiple vehicle and traffic infractions.

The investigation is ongoing.
