'Stunning' Starling: Smithtown Adoptable Pet Of The Week

SMITHTOWN, NY — Starling, a 3-year-old female domestic shorthair, is the Smithtown Animal Shelter's Pet of the Week.

She was adopted from the shelter as a kitten but returned because of allergies, according to the shelter.

"Starling is as affectionate and vocal as can be, and always looking to get some attention and snuggles," the shelter wrote. "Her previous owner overindulged her to the point where she has become extremely overweight. Any potential home should try and keep her on a healthy diet, as well as give her the love she needs to have a happy life. Starling would be a perfect addition to any family looking for a sweet companion."

There are currently a variety of male and female cats & kittens available to adopt or foster.

"If you are looking for a fun-loving, yarn-tossing ball of love, stop by the Kitten Nursery or the Cat Condos at the Smithtown Animal Shelter and find a PURR-fect soulmate or two," the shelter stated.

All of the felines at the shelter are current on vaccines and have received a full workup (blood work, Feline HIV & Leukemia tested, physical exam etc.) by a board-certified veterinarian.

Hours are currently Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sundays and Wednesday evenings are by appointment only.

The Smithtown Animal Shelter's primary concern is finding the perfect home for each animal that finds his/her way to it. The Animal Control Officers and kennel attendants at the Smithtown Animal Shelter will go out of their way to ensure both the rescued and rescuer are made for one another. If you have other pets, you can arrange to bring your four-legged family member into the shelter or they can set up an at-home meet & greet to see how your prospective new addition does with other family members, pets or the household itself.

The shelter is also seeking foster volunteers. Foster parents provide temporary care for cats, kittens and dogs in their own homes. Some animals need as little as two weeks of care, while others may need care for an extended time.
