Suffolk PD Pays Tribute To Inspector For 48 Years Of Service

SMITHTOWN, NY - After 48 years of service, Suffolk County Police Department Fourth Precinct Inspector Harold “Hal” Jantzen celebrated his last day before retiring this week.

Jantzen began his long career with the department on February 15, 1971 as part of the 44th recruit class.

He has had one of the longest tenured careers in the history of the department and served time in more than 20 commands, including 10 years as the commanding officer of Marine Bureau.

On Wednesday, Jantzen retired from the Fourth Precinct. His brother John Jantzen, who was killed in the line of duty in 1991, began his career at the same precinct.

The department held a celebration where colleagues, family and friends lined up outside of the Fourth Precinct in Smithtown to honor Jantzen during his final walkout.
