SUPREME TEAM Director Up Next on Tom Needham’s SOUNDS OF FILM
Director Peter J Scaletta Talks Showtime Networks' SUPREME TEAM & NAS on Tom Needham's SOUNDS OF FILM

Directed by Nasir “Nas” Jones and Peter J Scalettar, SUPREME TEAM is a three-part limited docuseries that takes an in-depth look at the notorious Queens, New York crime syndicate, and tells the real story from the mouths of its two leaders and family members, Kenneth “Supreme” McGriff and Gerald “Prince'' Miller.
Through the voices of these two infamous entrepreneurs as well as others in the community, politics, law enforcement, academia, and popular culture, viewers are given access beyond the headlines to examine the broader cultural dynamics, and the impact that this small group from South Jamaica Queens has had on society.
While the Supreme Team reached its height in the ‘80s and ‘90s, the series spans across six decades. It starts in the early 1970s as Prince and Supreme seek to understand what caused the decisions they made later in life. What transpires is a tightrope walk as these two men navigate choices that could land them as leaders of their industry, or behind bars for life – all the while causing havoc in their community that is still felt to this day.

America has a long history of illegal activity as the seed for success: from bootlegging to the plausible deniability in the pharmaceutical industry of today, SUPREME TEAM tells the story of why that path that’s been modeled isn’t designed for everyone.
Returning to Tribeca Film Festival for the 4th time, but first as a director, Peter J Scalettar is a multi-hyphenate filmmaker who seeks to tell and engage in authentic storytelling to pay for his previous sins as showrunner of the Bachelor franchise.

As writer and showrunner on Sacha Jenkins’ acclaimed Wu-Tang Clan: Of Mics and Men, he, along with Mr Jenkins, was Emmy nominated for outstanding writing for a non-fiction program as well as being nominated for two IDA awards and a Peabody award. The film had its world premiere at Sundance 2019, and significantly had its New York premiere at Tribeca the same year.
Since then, Scalettar has completed five documentaries, serving as Executive Producer alongside Mass Appeal, The Migos and Quality Control on Karam Gill’s multi-part Ice Cold (Tribeca ’21). He was also Executive Producer of Don't Try to Understand: A Year in the Life of Earl DMX Simmons (DOCSNYC ’21) - a purely verité film that followed DMX as he sought to reconcile decisions of his past while finding solace in his future, all prior to his untimely death.
Scalettar partnered with Karam Gill again, as well as Imagine Entertainment and Rolling Stone, to produce a limited documentary series entitled SUPERVILLAIN, the story of Tekashi 6ix9ine and his outsized cultural impact. Most recently Scalettar produced Estevan Oriol’s intimate look at iconic Hip Hop group Cypress Hill in Cypress Hill: Insane in the Brain.
