SMITHTOWN, NY — Candyland, a 6-month-old female domestic medium hair feline, is the Smithtown Animal Shelter's Pet of the Week.
She was brought to the Animal Shelter as part of the Trap-Neuter-Release (TNR) program.
"Candyland and her litter are all named after board games!" the shelter wrote. "The rest of the litter has since been adopted, and now it's time for Candy to find a purrfect home of her own."

Candy is very playful and affectionate, and she enjoys being petted, according to the shelter. She is a big fan of getting attention, and she rewards kindness with purring and love.
"Candy can see movement and shadows in good lighting, but is very limited in poor lighting," the shelter wrote. "This makes her untrusting of other animals and young children because they move erratically or sneak up on her. Candy would love a quiet, adult-only home where she can either live with pets that will not bother her or be the only pet in the home. She will need people who will be patient with her and time to adjust to a new home."

All of the felines at the shelter are current on vaccines and have received a full workup (blood work, Feline HIV & Leukemia tested, physical exam etc.) by a board-certified veterinarian.
Hours are currently Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sundays and Wednesday evenings are by appointment only.

The Smithtown Animal Shelter's primary concern is finding the perfect home for each animal that finds his/her way to it. The Animal Control Officers and kennel attendants at the Smithtown Animal Shelter will go out of their way to ensure both the rescued and rescuer are made for one another. If you have other pets, you can arrange to bring your four-legged family member into the shelter or they can set up an at-home meet & greet to see how your prospective new addition does with other family members, pets or the household itself.
The shelter is also seeking foster volunteers. Foster parents provide temporary care for cats, kittens and dogs in their own homes. Some animals need as little as two weeks of care, while others may need care for an extended time.
