The Smithtown Library Offers a Summer Reading Program for Babies!

The First Step to Reading is for our youngest library uses – birth to 3 years.  Reading aloud to children helps them to develop the literacy skills that they need to become independent readers.  Acting out stories with puppets, making up silly stories or just playing together in general helps children develop a well-rounded vocabulary and strong comprehension skills.  Research shows over and over again that an early introduction to books, interactive play and involvement in early literacy programs makes a significant impact on a child’s ability to learn how to read.

Come to your local branch of The Smithtown Library to register for this program and pick up your “First Step to Reading” packet which includes the following:

·         A reading log
