Troop 3 (Smithtown) Cleans The Stream

Boy Scout Troop 3 Supports Legislator Leslie Kennedy's Clean The Stream Initiative

On Saturday, August 15, 2015, nineteen Scouts and adult leaders from Troop 3 (Smithtown) joined Scouts from Troops 214, 349, 539, and 888 to assistant Legislator Kennedy in cleaning a tributary stream that leads to the Nissequoge River. The Scouts met at the corner of Forest Lane and Tanglewood Drive where they were educated by Mr. Rich Kitt of the Smithtown Department of Environment and Waterways, and Michael Kaufman of the Suffolk County Council on Environmental Quality on the environmental sensitivities of the waterways and how to properly remove debris. Using equipment loaned by the Department of Public Works, the Scouts waded through the stream removing branches and debris to improve water flow of the stream and reduce the risk of flooding to area residents.
