Watch: An Emotional Goodbye At A Long Island Toys R Us

Ryan Thomas loved his five years working at Toys R Us and it showed in his emotional goodbye to customers and coworkers Thursday night.

LAKE GROVE, NY - It was a sad day in Lake Grove on Thursday as the local Toys R Us store closed for the last time.

Ryan Thomas, 21, of Smithtown, worked the final shift at the store located at 3250 Middle Country Road.

After five years of working at the store, he said that "it was upsetting" to see the store close. Every remaining Toys R Us store in the country was set to close Friday as the iconic store chain shuts down for good after years of financial struggles.

"When you work with these people for as long as I have, they really become a family in a way," Thomas told Patch of his coworkers. "There was definitely a lot of emotion but at the end of the day we’ll always be in touch and always share the memory of working together in one of the happiest places to work on earth."

Thomas posted a video on his Facebook page of the last day at the store as it was closing. He made an announcement to shoppers as the store was closing "for one last time, we are closed," he said.

"I want to thank each and every one of you for coming here tonight along with every customer that has been here over the past five years I have been working here," he said "I also want to thank my coworkers and managers for being the best staff I've ever worked with."

"We will not be open tomorrow at 10 a.m. and as always, have a wonderful night," he concluded receiving cheers and applause from the employees and customers at the store.
