Week Ends With More Commuting Woes for LIRR Riders

LIRR will operate 75 percent of the 144 trains that normally operate in the morning.

LIRR riders can once again expect delays and cancellations Friday morning as railroad crews continue repair work and testing as a result of damage to a major switching tower at Jamaica Station earlier this week.

Even though a majority of the repair work has been completed, the Friday morning service plan includes a cancellation of 33 westbound trains.

While the LIRR will again be running 75 percent of the 144 trains that normally operate, the following Friday morning westbound Port Jefferson Branch trains have been canceled:

  • The 5:59 a.m. Port Jefferson train due in Hunterspoint Ave at 7:41 a.m.
  • The 6:45 a.m. Port Jefferson train due in Hunterspoint Ave at 8:30 a.m.

The evening rush hour service from Penn Station will consist of trains making local stops to Huntington/Port Jefferson, Ronkonkoma/Greenport, Long Beach, Babylon and Montauk. Customers are advised to board trains that do not require a change at Jamaica.

While 68 percent of the LIRR's regular 127 trains during the evening rush hour between 4 and 8 p.m. will be operating, the following eastbound trains have been canceled:

  • The 5:47 p.m. from Hunterspoint Ave. due in Port Jefferson at 7:30 p.m.
  • The 6:08 p.m. from Hunterspoint Ave. due in Port Jefferson at 8 p.m.
