Woman Falsely Reported Bomb And Gun Threats At Suffolk Mall: PD

An employee of one of the mall stores was arrested after she texted 911 that there was a bomb and woman with a gun in the mall, police say.

LAKE GROVE, NY — An Amityville woman who falsely reported bomb and gun threats at Smith Haven Mall on Sunday afternoon was arrested, Suffolk police said.

Tasia Morales, 28, of Amityville, sent a text message to 911 claiming there was a bomb inside the mall at 4:06 p.m., prompting Fourth Precinct officers to respond to the mall, police said. A few minutes later, she sent another text, telling police that a woman had a gun in the mall, police said.

Officers searched the mall and found no threat to the public, police said.

Morales, an employee of one of the mall stores, was arrested and charged with first-degree falsely reporting an incident, police said.

She was held overnight at the Fourth Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Monday.
