Police ID Man Killed In Head-On Collision

One person was killed and another injured in the tragic head-on crash in Hampton Bays, police say.

HAMPTON BAYS, NY — Police have identified the man killed in a head-on collision on Flanders Rd. in Hampton Bays Tuesday morning as Marcello Viscalla-Diaz, 20, of Flanders.

According to Southampton Town Police. Lt. Susan Ralph, a call came in at 7:01 a.m. regarding a serious head-on crash between a Ford pickup and a Trailblazer on Flanders Rd. near Bellows Pond Rd.

Officers found the driver of the Trailblazer unresponsive and trapped within the vehicle and quickly called for heavy rescue and ambulances to respond, police said. Members of the Hampton Bays Fire Department and Hampton Bays Volunteer Ambulance Corps responded quickly to assist, police said.

The driver of the Ford pickup truck was identified as Kevin Montano, 18, of East Hampton and the driver of the Chevy Trailblazer was identified as Viscalla-Diaz, police said.

Montano had been traveling north on Flanders Rd. and Viscalla-Diaz was traveling south when the two collided, police said. Viscalla-Diaz died at the scene, police said.

The New York State Police Department's accident reconstruction unit responded to assist Southampton Town Police detectives with the investigation, which is ongoing, police said.

No charges have been filed at the current time, police said.
