2 Airlifted After Fire Pit Explodes In Hamptons

A total of 4 people were severely burned when a fire pit exploded in Bridgehampton, police say.

BRIDGEHAMPTON, NY — Four people were hurt — with two airlifted — after a fire pit exploded in Bridgehampton Saturday, police said.

According to Southampton Town Police, a 911 call came in at 6:53 p.m. about the explosion on Kellis Way; patrol officers arrived at the home and found multiple people with severe burns.

A man and women were airlifted by the Suffolk County Police Department's aviation unit to Stony Brook University Hospital's burn unit in serious condition, police said. Two additional females were taken to an area hospital for treatment, police said.

The Bridgehampton Fire Department, Sag Harbor Ambulance, and Southampton Town fire marshals responded to the scene, police said. Southampton Town Police detectives and fire marshals are investigating the cause of the explosion, police said.
