Head-On Crash In Southampton Injures 2, Sparks Traffic Nightmare

2 people sustained serious injuries in the crash, officials say. Traffic was backed up for miles hours after the crash.

SOUTHAMPTON, NY — Two people were injured in a two-car, head-on crash on County Road 39 in Southampton Wednesday afternoon, officials said.

According to Chris Brenner, public information officer for the Southampton Fire Department, the crash took place just before 3 p.m. Both drivers were trapped in their cars and needed to be extricated, he said.

Southampton Fire Department, as well as Southampton Village Ambulance and Southampton Town Ambulance responed to the scene, Brenner said.

Both drivers were taken to Stony Brook Southampton Hospital for treatment of serious injuries, Brenner said.

Motorists in Southampton reported to Patch that the traffic was backed up, with gridlock still reported as of 7 p.m. Brenner said all but essential travel in the area should be avoided.
