2 Charged With DWI After 2 Separate Weekend Crashes: Police

Both drivers left the scene, police say.

SOUTHAMPTON, NY —Southampton Town police charged two people with driving while intoxicated after two separate crashes this weekend, authorities said.

First, on Saturday, Southampton Town police responded to the report of a crash on County Road 39 with one of the involved vehicles leaving the scene, authorities said. Police said they were able to locate the vehicle that left the scene on Gravel Hill Road in Hampton Bays.

Dario Lopez-Bravo, 38, of Hampton Bays, was arrested and charged with aggravated DWI, a misdemeanor, leaving the scene of a crash with property damage, an infraction, and two other traffic infractions, police said. He was transported to police headquarters for processing and held for arraignment, police said.

On Sunday, a report came in about a crash on Riverside Avenue in Flanders during which a driver struck a parked car and also, a utility pole, then fled the scene, police said.

A vehicle was found with damage that was consistent with the crash, police said. Edward Bernal-Veasquez, 25, of Riverhead, was found in the driver's seat of the vehicle and determined to be intoxicated, police said.

Bernal-Veasquez was arrested and transported via ambulance to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries, released from the hospital a short time later, and transported to Southampton Town Police Headquarters for processing; he was held for morning arraignment, police said. Bernal-Veasquez was charged with misdemeanor DWI, leaving the scene of a crash with property damage, an infraction, and drinking alcohol in a motor vehicle, police said.
