2 Vehicles Crash Into House, Business in Suffolk

A van went careening into a home and a car plowed into a P.C. Richards store Sunday.

WESTHAMPTON, NY — In the space of one afternoon in the Hamptons, a van careened into a house in Westhampton and another vehicle slammed into P.C. Richard & Son in Southampton, police said.

Southampton Town Police confirmed the Westhampton incident and said the P.C. Richard & Son crash followed soon after.

According to Fred Bauer of the Westhampton Beach Fire Department in a Facebook post: "Today we were personally reminded of how great it is to live in a place where friends and neighbors are always ready to respond when the s--- hits the fan. An accident in front of our house ended with a van hitting the house," he said.

Terrie Bauer, Fred's wife, said the driver of the van was making a left on Tanners Neck Ln. in Westhampton when the brakes failed on a red truck behind him, "sending him through my fence across the lawn and into my house."

Fred Bauer said there were no serious injuries to anyone and relatively little damage to the house. "Kudos to our team of first responders: the Southampton Town Police Department, Westhampton Beach Fire Department, the Westhampton War Memorial Ambulance Association — and others that stopped to help," he said.

According to Southampton Town Police, a car driven by a 42-year old woman then crashed into P.C. Richard & Son on County Road 39 at 2:26 p.m. Staff at the store said it was believed that there were no serious injuries, but could not speak to the extent of damage to the building.
