3-Car Crash In Southampton Sparks Traffic Snarls
Traffic was backed up on County Road 39 and the road was closed for 90 minutes as officials cleaned up the crash, the fire department says.
SOUTHAMPTON, NY — Traffic was backed up Tuesday after a three-car crash on County Road 39 and Tuckahoe Road in Southampton.
According to Chris Brenner, public information officer for the Southampton Fire Department, the crash took place at 1:34 p.m. and involved a small sedan, a Ford Ranger pickup truck and a Suffolk County Department of Public Works vehicle; the sedan struck another car and rolled over onto its roof into the westbound lane. The driver of the sedan was able to self-extricate before fire departments arrived, Brenner said.
Three people were taken to the hospital with minor injuries, Brenner said. Southampton Volunteer Ambulance, Southampton Village Volunteer Ambulance, and Hampton Bays Volunteer Ambulance Corps all responded to the scene.

The road was closed from Tuckahoe Road to Hill Station Road for about 90 minutes; fire police and Southampton Town traffic control officers were instrumental in directing traffic, Brenner said.
Traffic was still moving slowly after the crash was cleared about 3 p.m. due to how far vehicles were backed up.

Southampton Town Fire Chief Afred Callahan was in charge of the fire department and Southampton Volunteer Ambulance Chief Joe Riccardi was in charge of EMS at the scene, Brenner said. The Southampton Fire Department was utilized to stabilize the vehicles involved, as well as for traffic control and to clean up fluids that leaked from the vehicles involved, Brenner said.
