SOUTHAMPTON, NY — Excitement was in the air Thursday in Southampton as 252 applicants turned out for a workforce housing lottery held at Town Hall.
Hopefuls participated for the chance to purchase two newly constructed three bedroom, two bath homes in Southampton Town.
Qualified first-time homebuyers met initial criteria including meeting a maximum income level, as set by the United States Dept. of Housing and Urban Renewal, submitting an application to the Long Island Housing Partnership by Feb. 28, and paying a $50 non-refundable application fee, town officials said.

The homes are located on Moses Lane and Magee Street and will sell for $332,400 each. The Town of Southampton donated the land, and the homes were constructed under the direction of the Southampton Business Alliance Housing Initiative Corporation.
Approximately 60 applicants attended the lottery, which ranked the 252 applicants' names to give them an opportunity to purchase the homes. Southampton town board members randomly selected the names.
