LONG ISLAND, NY — PSEG Long Island was working to restore power Sunday morning to residents impacted by Saturday night's severe thunderstorms.
According to a statement by PSEG Long Island, crews worked through the night, "making strong progress restoring customers affected by yesterday’s thunderstorms."
As of 8 a.m., PSEG Long Island had restored power to more than 8,900 customers since the weather began Saturday, representatives said.
The hardest hit areas included the Town of Oyster Bay, the Town of Hempstead and the Town of North Hempstead, PSEG Long Island said.
On Sunday morning, 3,403 of 1.2 million electric customers across Long Island and the Rockaways were without power, PSEG Long Island said, adding: "Crews will continue to work safely and as quickly as possible, until all outages are restored."
Information about PSEG Long Island’s restoration process is available here.
PSEG Long Island also added that downed wires should always be considered "live. Stay as far away as possible from them, and if possible keep others, children, and pets away from the wire. Do not drive over or stand near any downed wire."
To report a downed wire, call PSEG Long Island’s 24-hour electric service number at 800-490-0075 or call 911.
