I don’t agree with “Long Island golf fans are a stain on the game of golf,”

Recently, very publicly a specific foreign Golf Channel contributor made the statement that, “Long Island golf fans are a stain on the game of golf.” I strongly disagree. In fact, I believe the opposite is true, I believe Long Island golf fans are wonderful golf fans.

Long Island is the home of some of the most awesome golf courses in the world. Some are public others private. There is no doubt that golf is and always has been popular on Long Island.

Long Island has a history of supporting their teams like the Islanders, Mets and even the ABA Nets! As for supporting golf ? There wouldn’t be pro tournaments on Long Island if being held on the island didn’t insure a nice financial return.

It would be a stretch to say golf is big business these days. It’s international, it’s world wide. To have a Golf Channel employee defame any area hosting a major golf tournament should be a reason to be disciplined, if not be fired. But, being a Long Islander I wouldn’t want anyone losing his job for making a mistake when discipline and a fine might be more appropriate.

A fine paid to some wonderful Long Island charities for the underserved. Perhaps both the Golf Channel and the broadcaster himself should make a nice donation to offset the egregious comments made by the gentleman in front of cameras with a microphone in his hand, because this was not a “hot mic moment” but a deliberate red light on comment meant to defame all Long Island Golf fans.

I am not going to get political and talk about racial discrimination at private courses all over the world but instead shine the light on the multitudes playing golf at public courses all over the USA and the world. Hard working regular men and women enjoying the opportunity to take time to recreate by playing the game of golf. These are the people buying the merchandise that eventually pays this Golf Channel individual’s salary.

Hail to the Long Island golf fans.
