SOUTHAMPTON, NY — Kids will be heading back to school with new backpacks and other supplies, after Southampton Town police and Police Explorers once again hosted the annual "Shop with a Cop" event.
The event is sponsored by Walmart and took place on Thursday, beginning with a barbecue party at police headquarters for participating kids and their families, police said.
After eating, the families, police officers and Police Explorers headed to Walmart for an evening of shopping for back to school supplies, police said.
"A special thank you to Walmart in Riverhead for their significant donation and assisting with shopping," police said, also thanking the Southampton Town Superiors Officers Association and Southampton Town Patrolman's Benevolent Association "for their generosity and help with our annual 'Shop with a Cop' event."
