Pedestrian Dies After Being Hit By Pickup Truck In Flanders: Police

He died early Sunday, police say.

FLANDERS, NY — A pedestrian died after being hit by a pickup truck in Flanders early Sunday, police said.

According to Southampton Town police, the crash took place at about 1:30 a.m. on Flanders Road, near the cross street of Oak Avenue.

The Southampton Town Police Department's Community Response Unit and patrol division responded, along with members of the Flanders Northampton Volunteer Ambulance Corps, police said.

Upon arrival, officers found a man lying in the roadway with serious physical injuries, police said.

As members of the Flanders Northampton Volunteer Ambulance Corps provided medical treatment to the man, detectives were summoned to the scene to conduct a further the investigation, police said.

A white 2016 Toyota Tacoma was traveling westbound on Flanders Road, passing through the lighted intersection at Oak Avenue, when the vehicle struck the man, who was crossing the roadway on foot, police said.

The operator of the vehicle did not sustain any injuries, police said. However, the pedestrian, identified as Wayne Conforti Jr., 37, of Flanders, was transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased as a result of the injuries he sustained in the crash, police said.

The vehicle involved was impounded for a safety inspection, police said.
