SOUTHAMPTON, NY — A faithful, four-footed public servant was honored recently upon his retirement.
Suffolk County Legislator Ann Welker presented the Southampton Village Police Department's K-9 Topper with a proclamation at the general meeting in recognition of his "well-earned retirement" after eight years of service, she said.
The German Shepherd-Belgian Malinois mix, born in the Czech Republic, completed extensive training with Officer James Moore through the Suffolk County Police Department's K-9 section, Welker said.
K-9 Topper and Officer Moore have assisted agencies from Manorville to Montauk making apprehensions, locating missing people, discovering evidence, and contributing to several "significant narcotics finds," Welker said. "K-9 Topper's contributions extend beyond his pawtrol duties, he brought joy and connection to the community through his public interactions."
"For his unwavering dedication and pawsitive impact, it is my honor to present Southampton Village Police Department's K-9 Topper with this proclamation on the occasion of his retirement," said Welker.
