Police ID Bicyclist Struck Monday Morning

The bicyclist was airlifted after the crash, police say.

WESTHAMPTON, NY — A bicyclist was struck by a vehicle in Westhampton Monday morning, police said.

According to Southampton Town Police, at 10:45 a.m., a call came in about the crash, which took place on County Road 31, just north of the railroad crossing. Sandy Smith, 58, was struck by Justin Glover, 39, of Remsenburg, police said. Glover, who was driving a 2018 Chevrolet Volt, was driving around roadwork when Smith pulled out and was struck, police said. No criminality is suspected and no charges were filed, police said.

Southampton Town Police personnel responded and asked additional personnel for assistance. Westhampton Beach Police, Suffolk County Sheriffs, the Westhampton Beach Fire Department, and Westhampton War Memorial Ambulance also responded. Smith was airlifted by Suffolk County Aviation to Stony Brook University Hospital for treatment, police said.

Southampton Town detectives responded and are currently investigating the crash, police said.
