Bites Nearby: Bobby Van's Is an Original

Steakhouse got its start in Bridgehampton.

You could stand on a corner and look around until a restaurant sign draws you in. But we've got a better idea. Each week, Southampton Patch picks a great restaurant either in town or nearby that is worth checking out. Here's this week's choice:

— Founded in 1969, Bobby Van's in Bridgehampton is the original in a chain of restaurants that now boasts two locations in Washington D.C. and four in New York City. There is also a Bobby Van's at JFK airport. It is named for a piano player who used to entertain diners there. The original Bobby Van's is known for its famous regulars, like Truman Capote. Bobby Van's features full lunch and dinner menus with dishes such as oysters, crab cakes, filet mignon, salads, lamb chops and Chilean sea bass. The restaurant served lunch and dinner and features a full bar and outdoor dining.

2393 Montauk Hwy, Bridgehampton. Sunday through Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., Friday through Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. 631-537-0590
