Brush Fire Closes Portion Of Roadway In Riverside: Police

RIVERSIDE, NY —Westbound traffic on Nugent Drive in Riverside was closed Friday afternoon due to a brush fire in the wooded area along the roadway, Southampton Town police said.

It was unknown how long the closure would last, police said.

Motorists were encouraged to find alternate routes if traveling in the area, police said.

Firefighters were working on the fire, which included several small hot spots spread throughout the area, police said.

Southampton Town fire marshals, detectives, and police units were at the scene investigating and assisting with efforts to extinguish the fires, police said.

No injuries or property damage were immediately reported, police said.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, police said.
