Burglar Jumps From Window After Woman Finds Him In Home: Police
Police and a K-9 unit nabbed the burglar, who tried to flee on foot, officials say.
SAG HARBOR, NY — A burglar caught in a woman's Sag Harbor home tried to jump from a second story and flee the scene Wednesday, police said.
According to Southampton Town Police, the incident took place at 1:19 p.m. at a residence on Sag Harbor Turnpike; the department's 911 center got a call from the homeowner through a Life Alert notification about a burglary in progress. The woman came home, found a man inside her residence, and activated the medical alert button, telling Life Alert that someone was inside, police said.
Oscar Noel Mayen Perego, 21, of Riverside, was arrested and charged with second degree burglary, resisting arrest, and obstruction of governmental administration, police said.

When a patrol officer arrived, Mayen Perego jumped from a second story window and fled on foot, police said.
The patrol officer pursued Mayen Perego and was injured during the chase but did not stop, police said. Next, a Southampton Village K9 handler and K9 Topper responded and found Mayen Perego, placing him under arrest, police said.

Perego was treated for minor injuries and released from Stony Brook Southampton Hospital, then taken to Southampton Town Police headquarters for processing, police said.
